The Lever Glossary

Illusory truth

When establishing a shared problem or industry-wide context.

Why it works

We are more likely to believe a statement is true if we have heard it repeatedly. Referencing a commonly accepted truth or industry trend reinforces your position as an authority.

Example

As everyone in fintech is realizing, the current security standards are no longer enough to protect user data.

An illustration of the mechanism, not a template. Copied verbatim it stops being persuasion and starts being the pattern everyone else is already sending.

Is your sequence pulling this one?
